NO ON PROP 8 DON'T GIVE UP by ~nekointhecorner:iconnekointhecorner:

Proposition 8 changes the California constitution to eliminate the right for same-sex couples to marry and have their relationship be recognized as valid.

Most of the people who voted yes didn't understand what Proposition 8 is all about. Instead, they fell for the lies of the Mormons, who actually funded for the amendment AND happen to support polygamy. Proposition 8 does not affect schools. California law prohibits schools to teach children certain topics without letting the parents or guardians know. It also doesn't affect churches since they will not lose their tax-exemption status. Proposition 8 is denying equal rights and protection of same-sex couples. If Proposition 8 does pass, domestic partnerships and civil unions would still be available, but the couples won't have all the rights that they would have if they would be able to get married.

So far, those who are for Proposition 8 are winning, although the absentee votes have yet to be counted and the amendment is being challenged at court.

Proposition 8 is unfair and a violation of people's rights. America is supposed to be the land of the free, but it seems as though not everyone has the same rights. Everyone should be treated equally regardless of sexual orientation. The things that the Yes on Prop 8 ads say are scare tactics to get people to vote yes.

Homosexuality is not choice, nor is it a trend that sprang up out of nowhere. It's not even perversion. There were always Homosexuals and Bisexuals in history like Alexander the Great, Virginia Woolf, Oscar Wilde, and many others. Even animals can be gay. Love is not just between a man and a woman. A lot of the people who supported Proposition 8 believe that they're saving traditional marriage between a straight couple since the beginning of time. Marriage is not only practiced in Christianity, but in other religions too. How is it that marriage between same sex couples ruin the sanctity of marriage? What sanctity of marriage are you trying to save if there's divorce, prostitution, and even unfaithful lovers today?

And there's the claim that a man and a woman can reproduce, so their marriage is right. What about infertile couples? Elderly couples who have just married? Or couples who don't intend on having children? Are you going to deny their right to marry? It's sexist to think that women are meant to be used by men to populate the Earth.

The religious extremists (and I know that not all Christians are like this) are taking one part of the old testament of the Bible so seriously, which is the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. The Bible is an ancient text that has been retranslated over the centuries. As a matter of fact, that part of the Bible is about inhospitality NOT Homosexuality. It's hypocritical that they would follow one part of the Bible, but not the other passages. It's the 21st century. We're not living by tribal rules anymore. Love has nothing to do with religion.

Why worry about who people love when there are important issues in the world to think about like war, poverty, and world hunger? If you are disgusted by same sex couples and gay marriage, then please mind your own business. The world is not going to end and California is not going to burst into flames if Gay people get married.

If it happens that Proposition 8 does get passed in the end, there's still hope. We can still show them that they just can't take our rights away and treat us differently from everyone else.

It is not over. We must not give up.
